Angelika H. Hofmann, Ph.D.

Angelika Hofmann is the founder and senior scientific editor of SciWri. She has extensive experience editing research papers, grant proposals, and other scientific documents since 1994. As one of her greatest achievements, Angie edited and helped compose several of the 2009 Nobel Prize papers in Chemistry. In addition to editing and consulting, Angie teaches scientific writing classes and holds workshops worldwide. She is renowned in the scientific writing field and has been an invited speaker at various institutions globally. Angie, who is the author of the comprehensive text- and reference book entitled “Scientific Writing and Communication: Papers, Proposals, and Presentations” (Oxford, December 2009), holds Bachelors degrees in Biology and in Chemistry as well as a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of California, Irvine. Her studies were followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Genetics in Berlin, Germany. Angie currently works as a fundraiser for science and international initiatives at Yale University.

Betty P. Liu, Ph.D.

Betty Liu is currently a Senior Program Officer at the W. M. Keck Foundation in Los Angeles, CA.  She reviews biomedical grant applications and assesses the progress of funded projects in the Foundation’s Medical Research program.  She also works with external scientific experts to evaluate the impact of past Foundation grantmaking.  Prior to joining the Foundation, Betty edited grants and authored white papers that garnered private philanthropic support for biomedical research projects at the Yale School of Medicine as well as community-based organizations.   Betty received her Ph.D. in Cell Biology with special emphasis on cancer biology in 2000 from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She completed her post-doctoral training in neuroscience in the Neurology Department at Yale University.
