Customers can choose between one of the following editing services. After reviewing your document, we can also recommend an editing level for you.
1. Basic Editing
Basic editing involves editing for good technical style and covers proofreading and copyediting. We ensure consistency of tense and style and revise inaccurate/vague terms. We also edit for spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 4-6 pages per hour (1000 -1500 words)
What is the difference between that and which?
When should you use numerals versus numbers?
Can you recognize an unclear pronoun?
Which abbreviations are okay to use in the title? How about in the abstract?
Can you mix past tense and present tense in the same sentence?
Let us worry about the rules of grammar and remember the conventions particular to science and medical writing.
Project Example
An associate professor whose native language is not English, but who has lived in the US for some years and has written several prior proposals, is putting together a grant proposal on climate studies. He would like to have a native English speaker read over his final draft proposal mainly for grammar, word choice, and spelling. A basic editing level is usually sufficient to fulfill his request.

2. Professional Editing and Writing
We check for clarity, style, flow, and impact. We eliminate jargon, apply stylistic editing, and rewrite to improve sentence clarity. Above all, we consider how the reviewer and reader interprets the text. We therefore look particularly at word and sentence location as well as at paragraph location. Text may be significantly rewritten and reorganized to improve clarity, logic, and flow. Professional editing also covers copyediting and editorial services. 1-3 pages per hour (250 -750 words)
Project Examples
An postdoctoral fellow is putting together her first paper. The principle investigator does not have time for several revisions and prefers to receive a close-to-final draft. As the postdoctoral fellow does not yet have much experience in composing a scientific research paper, she may need more assistance in writing. In this case, a professional editing of the manuscript may be warranted.
A junior professor is composing a grant application to a private foundation. No instructions are provided by the funder. The professor will likely need professional help in putting this proposal together.

Edits and editorial comments will be tracked in MS word. An example of an edited portion of a scientific document is shown below. Comments alert you to any unclear passages that may require your additional attention.

3. Rewriting
On average, 50% of research paper submissions receive a rejection from the target journal. For grant proposals, the rejection rate is even higher (up to 95% for initial submissions). When a document has to be rewritten, we check for clarity, style, flow, and impact, eliminate jargon, apply stylistic editing, and reword to improve sentence clarity. Above all, we consider how the reviewer and reader interprets the text. We therefore look particularly at word, sentence and paragraph location. Text may be significantly rewritten and reorganized to improve clarity, logic, and flow. This service also includes copyediting and proofreading.
Project Examples
An assistant professor received a rejection on a career grant application but has the opportunity to resubmit. He would like assistance in improving the style and composition, as well as in addressing reviewer comments. Here, professional editing will likely be recommended in combination with rewriting. This process will include a cover letter or page that explains how reviewer comments have been addressed.
The paper of a foreign scientist has been rejected but invited for resubmission after substantial changes have been made. The authors have also been asked to have the manuscript edited by a native English speaker. The document likely needs professional editing and assistance in rewriting with particular expertise in editing for a non-native speaking author.
